Lady Tigers fall to Paine

TUSCALOOSA, AL – The Stillman women’s volleyball team lost its third match of the season to the visiting Paine College Lady Lions Saturday afternoon in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. Paine won 30-19, 30-17, 30-22. With the loss Stillman falls to 4-3, 3-3.

Bianca Burton and Carolyn Etheridge each recorded 8 kills to lead the Lady Tigers. Burton also finished with 28 digs and four solo blocks. Jasmine Leatherwood added 17 digs and three solo blocks. Takila Mayfield recorded a game-high 29 assists.

Stillman will return to action on October 3 when the lady Tigers host Clark Atlanta in conference play. Match play is scheduled for 5:30 pm.

Lady Tigers get fourth straight win

Sept. 12, 2006

MARION, AL -- Bianca Burton and Jessica Brown recorded 18 and 14 kills respectively to lead the Stillman women's volleyball team to a win over Judson College Monday evening in Marion, Alabama . The Lady Tigers beat the Lady Eagles 25-30, 28-30, 30-20, 30-16, 15-4 in non-conference play to improve to a 4-1 overall record.

Burton recorded her kills on 33 attacks. She also recorded seven digs, six solo blocks and three assisted blocks. Brown had 37 attacks, three service aces and seven digs. Takilia Mayfield contributed 34 assists and four solo blocks in the win.

Stillman (3-1 SIAC) will return to action on September 19 when the Lady Tigers travel to Atlanta, Georgia to face Clark Atlanta University in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.

Lady Tigers win two of three in conference play

TUSCALOOSA, AL -- The Stillman women's volleyball team won two of three matches during the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Western Division volleyball Cluster. Last year Stillman recorded a 2-18 record. The cluster was held in Memphis, Tennessee at the LeMoyne Owen College campus on August 31 - Sept. 2.

In Stillman's opening match the Lady Tigers were beaten 24-30, 17-30, 24-30 by Kentucky State University. Bianca Burton (Jr., Del Ray Beach, FL) led Stillman with eight kills and five digs in the loss. Jessica Brown (Fr., Montgomery, AL) followed with six kills.

Stillman recorded its first win of the season, beating Lane College 30-21, 30-17, 30-15. Burton recorded 10 kills and four digs. Tiffany Goodloe (So., Birmingham, AL) added five kills. Takilia Mayfield (Jr., Northport, AL) led Stillman with 20 assists. The Lady Tigers recorded 35 kills on 67 attack, with 16 hitting errors.

On the final day of the tournament Stillman beat the host team, LeMoyne Owen, 30-17, 30-17, 30-17. Brown recorded a team high 11 kills on 16 attacks, two assists, three service aces and seven digs. Mayfield recorded 17 assists and Goodloe contributed 12 assists.

Lady Tiger head coach Jake Irby earned his 188th win at Stillman.

Stillman (2-1 overall, 2-1 SIAC) will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 6 when the Lady Tigers host Miles College in conference action. Match play is scheduled to start at 5:30 pm. Admission is free.

Lady Tigers have first practice

TUSCALOOSA, AL --- The Stillman College volleyball team took to the court for the first practice of the 2006 season Monday afternoon. The Lady Tigers had approximately a 50-minute workout in Birthright Hall and worked on fundamentals.

Newly appointed head coach Jake Irby believes that his Lady Tigers should be more competitive in the SIAC than last year’s team.

Stillman will open the season at the SAC Western Division Cluster in Jackson, Tennessee on Sept. 1.

Etheridge and Gibson Named Arthur Ashe Sports Scholars

TUSCALOOSA, AL--- Stillman's Carolyn Etheridge and Rickey Gibson were named to the Arthur Ashe Sports Scholars Women's Volleyball and Men's Basketball Teams by Diverse Online, a leading portal to diversity issues in higher education.

Etheridge, a sophomore from Mobile, Ala., was selected as a third team member. During the 2005 volleyball season she was second on the team in services aces with 29. Gibson, a senior from Birmingham, Ala., received a second team nod. During the 2005-06 season he was the third leading scorer on the team, averaging 12.6 points, 4.7 rebounds and his 90 steals to lead the SIAC. He was named to the All-SIAC second team and was selected for the 3rd Annual Black College All-Star Basketball Classic.

Etheridge is a Biology major and Gibson is majoring in Health and Physical Education .

Diverse Issues in Higher Education established the Sports Scholars Awards to honor undergraduate students of color who have made achieving both academically and athletically a winning combination.

To be nominated, student-athletes have to maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.2 and be active on their campuses or in their communities.

Stillman volleyball finishes in fifth place at cluster
Oct. 10, 2005

The Kentucky State University women's volleyball team made its presence known during the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference western division cluster held on the Stillman College campus. For three days the Thorobrettes demonstrated their dominance as they won all five of their matches. The LeMoyne Owen Lady Magicians were the only cluster participants to record a winning record during the cluster. LeMoyne Owen finished with a 4-1 mark.

The host school, Stillman, earned its first win of the season. The Lady Tigers beat the Lane College Lady Dragons 3-2 during Friday's match. Stillman finished the cluster with one win and three loses. The Miles College Lady Golden Bears followed LeMoyne with a 2-2 cluster record. Tuskegee won two matches and dropped three and Lane did not win a match.

The SIAC volleyball tournament will take place from Nov. 9-11 in Albany, GA.

Stillman Volleyball Has Second Practice

August 10, 2005

The Stillman College volleyball team had its second pre-season practice in Birthright Hall to get ready for the 2005 season. The Lady Tigers are coming off a 2-20 record a season ago, under Sherri Harris. The 2004 season was Harris' first as head coach.

Heading into the pre-season practice, Harris feels the team will be ready for its first season as a member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

“We will play hard and be in good condition," Harris said.

Stillman will return to practice on Thursday. The Lady Tigers will concentrate on conditioning from 5:30 am - 7:30 pm and will have an evening practice from 3:00 pm - 5:30 pm.

Stillman opens the season on Sept. 2 when the Lady Tigers compete in the SIAC Western Division Cluster. Stillman's first home matches take place on Sept. 6 as the team plays host to the Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers.

Lady Tigers fall to Lady Magicians

Memphis, TN--- The Stillman Lady Tigers put up a good fight, but fell to the LeMoyne Owen Lady Magicians in women's volleyball play Monday night. The Lady Tigers fell 30-25, 30-24, 30-18.

With the loss Stillman’s record falls to 2-18.

Brerante' Dudley and Danielle Pence led the Lady Tigers with 11 kills each. Pence and Dudley also led Stillman with 10 and 11 assists respectively.

Stillman will return to action Friday, Oct. 29 as the Lady Tigers host Clark Atlanta University. Match play is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.

Fort Valley State tames Lady Tigers

Tuscaloosa, AL--- The Stillman Lady Tigers lost in straight sets to the Fort Valley State University Lady Wildcats in women's volleyball play Monday night. The Lady Tigers fell 30-6, 30-9, 30-27.

With the loss Stillman’s record falls to 2-14.

Brerante' Dudley and Danielle Pence led the Lady Tigers with seven kills each. Pence and Dudley also led Stillman with seven and eight assists respectively. Precious Bradley recorded a team high two blocked shots and Willie Mae Duerson led the team with four service aces.

Stillman will return to action Thursday, Oct. 14 as the Lady Tigers host Judson College and LeMoyne Owen University in dual match play in Birthright Hall. Match play is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.

Lady Tigers drop third match of the season

TUSCALOOSA--- The Stillman Lady Tigers lost their third volleyball match of the season with a 30-23, 30-28, 30-25 loss to Miles College on Wednesday evening in Birthright Hall.

Stillman’s record falls to 0-3 for the season.

Miles' Jessica Insel (Fr., Grand Prarie, TX) recorded a game high 14 kills and Syreeta Duncan (Sr., Montgomery, AL) followed with 13 kills. Both Duncan and Insel served four aces each. DeAngela Ethendge (Sr., Birmingham, AL) led all setters with 15 assists.

Danielle Pence (Sr., Somerville, AL) led Stillman with 13 kills and Tameika Crimbley (Sr., Atmore, AL) and Brerante' Dudley (Sr., Birmingham, AL) followed with 6 kills each. Dudley also added 6 assists. Melodie Armer (Sr., Montgomery, AL) led Stillman with 12 assists.

Lady Tigers fall to Albany in volleyball season opener

Aug. 30, 2004

Albany, GA---The Stillman College Lady Tiger volleyball team opened the 2004 season with a 3-0 loss to the Albany State Lady Rams Monday evening.

Albany State won all three games, with scores of 30-8, 30-11 and 30-10, in an hour and two minutes.

Albany State’s Janel Herring recorded a game high 10 kills. Eshovo Amune followed with eight kills and four service aces, and Verniece Graham added kills and three service aces.

Senior Tameika Crimbley led Stillman with three kills. Senior Melodie Armer led the Lady Tigers with three assists.

Stillman will return to action Tuesday, August 31 as the Lady Tigers travel to Fort Valley, GA to face the Fort Valley State Lady Wildcats. Match play is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.

Stillman Lady Tigers open volleyball season on road

The Stillman College Lady Tigers volleyball team will open its 2004 season on the road against the Albany State University Lady Rams on Monday, Aug. 30. The match will be held on the Albany State campus at 6 p.m.

The Lady Tigers finished 2003 with a 4-18 record. Stillman will play its first home match of the season on Wednesday, Sept. 1 against the Miles College Lady Golden Bears.
