Stillman Tennis Coach To Hold Summer
Camp July 13, 2006 Tuscaloosa, AL -- Will Riley, the Stillman College tennis coach, will hold the Vegas Gold and Navy Blue tennis camp beginning July 17 at Bowers Park. The camp is for children ages four to fourteen. The camp will concentrate on developing hand-eye coordination, contacting the ball, running, and lots of fun! The Camp is an evening program and the daily schedule combines tennis instruction and additional activities including games and more! Registration for the camp is $40 and camp runs Monday - Thursday, 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Session dates are July 17- 20. All skill levels of students are welcome and groups are formed based on skill levels of those attending. Curriculum will include basic stroke production, drills, games, and strategies for all levels of play. There will be match play every day between 7:30 pm and 7:45 pm. Participants are asked water, racquet, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and towel. Participants are also asked to wear loose comfortable clothing and tennis shoes. Stillman College SIAC Spring Sports Festival Update Apr. 13, 2006 TUSCALOOSA, AL --- On the first day of the 2006 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Spring Sports Championships the Stillman Tiger teams are making their bids for conference championships. Baseball: In Stillman's opening game for the conference championships the # 2 seeded Tigers defeated the # 5 seed in Clark Atlanta University. Stillman won 16-6 to improve to a 24-21 overall record, while CAU falls to a 4-23 mark. After giving up three runs in the first two innings, Stillman scored eight runs at the bottom of the second and three more in the third to put the game away. Josh Godfrey (1-5) pitched a complete game to pick up the win. In seven innings of work he gave up six runs on 10 hits and walked two batters. He also struck out six batters. Marcus Whitfield led Stillman, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored. Three other Tigers recorded two hits and two runs. Sanduan Dubose went 2-for-4 with two runs, and two RBI, Shannon Smith went 2-for-4 and scored two runs and Casey Orr went 2-for-3 and scored two runs. Stillman will next play on Friday, April 14 at 12:30 pm at Tuscaloosa Academy. Stillman will play the winner of the #1 Benedict College and #6 Paine College game. Softball: The Lady Tiger softball team finished day one with a 2-1 tournament record. In the opening game Stillman the 3rd seed beat Clark Atlanta 3-2. Robyn Beaty got the win in seven innings of work. She allowed two runs off of three hits, while recording four strike outs. Chanse Worthington led Stillman with two hits a run and a RBI. In the second game Stillman fell 14-7 to # 1 Kentucky State. Beaty got the loss. She pitched six innings allowed 14 runs off of 20 hits, while recording only one strike out. Sierra Williams led the Stillman offense. She went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. In the third game the Lady Tigers bounced back to beat # 6 Lane 18-1 in five innings. Beaty picked up the win to improve to a 24-11 record. Kasia Cunningham went 2-for-4 and scored two runs for Stillman. Stillman will play # 2 Albany State on Friday at 10 am. Track & Field: Brian Witherspoon advanced to the finals in the men's 200 meter dash. Witherspoon won the fourth heat with a 21.41 time, which placed him third overall in the preliminaries. The Stillman men's 4 x 100 meter relay team also advanced to the finals. The Tigers The men's 200 meter dash finals will be held on Saturday, April 15 at 3:30 pm at the Stillman Stadium Athletic Complex. The men's 4 x 100 meter relays are scheduled to start at 1:10 p.m. Tennis: The Stillman men's and women's tennis teams both lost on the first day. The #6 Tigers fell 5-0 to 4th seeded LeMoyne Owen College. The 7th seeded Lady Tigers fell 5-3 to # 2 Tuskegee. The 2006 SIAC Spring Sports Festival will continue on Friday, April 14 with events beginning at 10 am. For Friday's games no admission will be charged. -Tigers- Four Tigers named All-SIAC at Spring Sports Banquet Apr. 13, 2006 TUSCALOOSA, AL --- In the opening banquet for the 2006 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Spring Sports Championships members of the Stillman College baseball, softball women's track and field and women's tennis teams were recognized for their outstanding play and academic excellence. Four Tigers received awards in Birthright Hall Wednesday night. Robyn Beaty, the Lady Tigers starting pitcher for softball, was named to the All SIAC first team. Beaty recorded and impressive 22-10 record this season. She was the only Stillman player to make first team. Stillman baseball player Josh Massey was named to the All-Conference second team at right field. In 37 games played Massey has a .377 batting average, 28 runs, 43 hits, and 18 RBI. Lady Tiger tennis player, Andrea Adams, received a All-Conference second team nod. In individual match play she was 7-6 overall and 5-6 in the SIAC. Ashley Hill, a tennis player, was the only Stillman player to make an All-Academic team. The sophomore from Birmingham, AL has a 3.5 grade point average and is majoring in Business. The first day of competition will begin on Thursday morning at 9 am. For the remainder of the week the games will begin at 10 am. The track and field, softball and tennis events will conclude on Saturday, with the championship games. The baseball championship will be decided on Sunday at the Stillman Athletic Complex. The #2 seeded Stillman baseball team will play at 11:30 am at Tuscaloosa Academy on April 13. The #3 seeded softball team will begin tournament play at 10 am on second softball field on the Stillman campus. The 6th seeded Tiger tennis team will play at 11 am at Bowers Park and the women's team is scheduled to play at 1 pm. All track and field events will start at 9 am at Stillman Stadium. On Thursday and Friday no admission will be charged. For Saturday's softball and track and field championships adults admission is $10 and children 12 years and under is $5. For Sunday's baseball championship a $5 general admission fee will be charged. -Tigers- Lady Tigers beat Judson Mar. 15, 2006 TUSCALOOSA, AL -- The Stillman College women's tennis team picked up
its fourth victory of the season by beating Judson College 6-3 in a
non-conference match at Bowers Park on Tuesday. Three Lady Tigers posted
straight-set victories in singles. Stillman also picked up two wins via
forfeit by Judson at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles. Stillman (4-6)
will return to action on Mar. 15 as the Lady Tigers travel to
Livingston, AL to face West Alabama in non-conference play. SINGLES:

-Tigers- Tigers struggle in SIAC Cluster Mar. 12, 2006 TUSKEGEE, AL --- Stillman College Men and Women Tennis Team traveled to Tukegee University for the SIAC CLUSTER. The Lady Tigers were 2-4 this weekend and the Men were 1-5as they started the cluster off by playing Clark-Atlanta and lost 5-0. The format for the Cluster is first team to 5. Day 1 The Men played Morehouse College and were defeated 5-0 as well. The Tigers played LeMoyne-Owens College in their Second match and the Men lost 5-0 and the Lady Tigers won 5-0 against the Lady Magicians. The final match of day 1 for the Tigers was against Fort Valley State University. The Stillman Men lost 5-0 and the Stillman women were trailling 3-2 when matches were called because of darkness and the match was not finished. Day 2 The Tigers started out with Lane College on Day 2 and the Men defeated the Lane Dragons 5-3 and the Stillman Lady Tigers won 5-0. The Tigers played Benedict College in their second match of Day 2 and the Stillman Men lost 5-0 and the Stillman Women lost 5-2. Day 3 The Stillman Lady Tigers played two matches on the final day as the played Albany State and lost to the Lady Rams 5-1 and lost to Tuskegee 5-1. The men played Tuskegee and lost 5-0. Tigers travel to Holly Srping, Mississippi this weekend for the Rust College Invitational. team fell to the University of Montevallo 7-2 in a non-conference match
at the Varsity Courts on Friday. Five Lady Falcons posted straight-set
victories in singles. Stillman picked up two victories via forfeit by UM
at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles. Stillman (0-1) will return to action
on March 4 as the Lady Tigers travel to Jackson, MS to face Millsaps
College in non-conference play at 2 p.m. -Tigers Stillman takes third place in Rust Tourney Mar. 23, 2005 TUSCALOOSA, AL---The Stillman men and women's tennis teams each finished in third place in the Rust College Tournament in Holly Springs, MS last weekend. In the tournament Stillman faced LeMoyne Owen College, Fisk University, Tougaloo College, Rust, and Lane College. The Lady Tigers went 3-2 in the tourament, beating Fisk (6-2), Rust (5-4) and Lane (8-1). Stillman lost to LeMoyne Owen (1-8) and Tougaloo (4-5). For the season the Lady Tigers have a 7-4 record. The Stillman men's team also posted a 3-2 tournament record. The Tigers beat LeMoyne Owen (4-3), Fisk (5-0), and Rust (6-3), while falling to Tougaloo (0-8) and Lane (0-8). Stillman has a 7-2 record for the season. "I think all of our players did a very good job," said William Riley, Stillman head tennis coach. "I have a lot of young players and this was our first tournament of the season, so I am proud of them." The Lane and LeMoyne Owen took the first place men and women trophies respectively. Tougaloo claimed both men and women second place awards. -Tigers- Tennis: Tigers finish in 6th place at Rust tourney March 23, 2004 HOLLY SPRINGS, MS---The Stillman College men's tennis team finished in sixth place at the 11th Annual Rust College Invitational Tournament last weekend. During the tournament the Tigers won one match and lost three. Stillman opened the tournament with a 7-2 loss to the Rust Bearcats. The next day Stillman fell to the Lemoyne Owen College Magicians 7-2. The Tigers posted their first win of the season beating the Fisk University Bulldogs 4-3. Stillman ended its run in the tournament with a 7-2 loss to the Lane College Dragons. Stillman's season record stands at 1-4.
