Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., was founded on the campus of Howard University on January 15, 1908.  It became the first sorority organized in America by black women.  The sorority grew from an undergraduate group of nine members to a national organization.  Its active membership includes over nine hundred thousand distinguished women, worldwide.

First conceived as an instrument for enriching the social and intellectual aspects of college life, Alpha Kappa Alpha served to provide mental stimulation for chosen friends and associates.  Delta Sigma Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., was founded at Stillman College in 1963.  Through the years, Delta Sigma Chapter has kept allegiance to the national interests of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.  Alpha Kappa Alpha is an organization of service to all mankind.  These phenomenal sorors have truly proven to be "Women of Distinction."
