Stillman coach C.C. Moorer said the players returned on Dec. 28, and resumed practice on Dec. 29.

“You’re always a little concerned when you have those 14-day layoffs,” said Moorer, whose team hadn’t played since a loss to Benedict on Dec. 11. “I have to give credit to the players because they came back in pretty good shape so we could just really go into adding on to what we had been doing previously. We did a lot of conditioning, but we also stayed focused because there was no one on campus. All we had to do was get in here and practice and focus on what we wanted to do.”

Three Stillman players scored in double figures, and 10 ended up in the scoring column.

“We wanted to start the new year off right,” Moorer said. “This is the second part of our season. We’re forgetting about what happened in those first seven games because we’re starting a new season right now. We have 11 games this month, and we really have to stay focused.”

Guard Jasmine Hazley, who made a couple of 3-pointers, led Stillman with 16 points. Forward Jamila McKinnis had 14 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Forward Alecia Young finished with 12 points and six rebounds. Guard Siera Dority had nine points, four rebounds and three assists.

McKinnis had 10 points as the Lady Tigers built a 34-21 halftime lead. LeMoyne-Owen cut it to 44-35 on a jumper by Sharita Jones with less than 14 minutes left.
