Stillman College 137th Founder's Day Speaker Will Be Patricia Kirk-McAlpine
Stillman College will hold its 137th Founder’s Day Convocation on Thursday, October 10, 11 a.m., in Birthright Alumni Hall. The speaker for this historic occasion will be Patricia Kirk-McAlpine.
Kirk-McAlpine is a Stillman alumna who began her career in the three-year Army Career Intern Program in Huntsville, Alabama in 1973 and eventually rose to the highest rank possible for Federal Civilian employees, the rank of Senior Executive Service (SES). This rank is achieved by less than one percent of all federal employees and is equivalent to a military General Officer.
During her 37 years of service to the Country, she worked for the Air Force, the CIA, and the Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) Space Missile Systems Division. Prior to her retirement in 2010, she served as Executive Director for the DCMA Space and Missile System.
She was the division’s first director, and had responsibility for a staff of over 4,500 employees and oversight responsibility for more than 23,946 contracts valued at $319 billion at over 1,744 contractor locations throughout the United States.
In recognition of her service to the agency and the nation, she was presented with numerous awards, including a Presidential Rank Award from President George W. Bush, the Patriot Award for outstanding support to the Guard and Reserves, the Defense Distinguished Civilian Service Award, the Air Force Association State of California “Civilian of the Year” Award, the Volunteer of the Year Award from the State of California, the Counsel General of Indonesia Award and the A-MAN Inc. International Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Board Member of the Year Award.
Following graduation from Stillman, Kirk-McAlpine received an MBA from Alabama A&M University and did further studies at Harvard University, Cambridge, MA; The University of Southern California (USC), Los Angeles, CA; Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY; The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; and The Federal Executive Institute, Charlotte, North Carolina.
Kirk-McAlpine is also a former Adjunct Professor at Defense Acquisition University in San Diego, CA, and an active volunteer. She is a life member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. While a student at Stillman, she was also active with Alpha Kappa Mu National Honor Society, the Chancelorettes and the Student Government Association.
