Lady Tigers Stun top Seed Fort Valley, Advance to Semifinals

Atlanta, GA| In the quarterfinal round of the SIAC conference tournament, the Stillman Lady Tigers upset top-seeded Fort Valley State University 72-68.

 The Lady Tigers led the entire first half in and went in at the break with a 40-33 lead.

Stillman connected on 4 of 7 three point shot attempts and was led in the paint by second team all-conference selection Alecia young with 13 points in the half.

 Stillman shot 55% for the half and connected on 16 of 29 shot attempts. Fort Valley was ice cold for the half connecting on only 14 of 40 shots.

 In the second half, Fort Valley outscored Stillman 35-32 and used its stifling press defense to turn Stillman over 9 times. Stillman would not waver though as the Lady Tigers knocked down big free-throws down the stretch. Stillman got to the Line 31 times in the contest and made most of its 17 free-throws when it counted.

 Neither team shot the ball particularly well in the half nor was there a significant rebound advantage. Stillman’s Jamila Mckinnis owned the glass snagging 17 rebounds on the night.

Guard Siera Dority was 4 of 7 from three point range and had 23 points. Center Alecia Young had 18 points and Jasmon Hazley added 10 points.

 Stillman will face #4 seeded Tuskegee University on Friday at 4p.m.

Tuskegee defeated # 5 seeded Lemoyne-Owen 78-72 in its game.
