TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America (NACA) will host “Achieve the Dream,” a free home-buyer workshop for the Tuscaloosa community on Feb. 25 at Stillman College.

NACA is a non-profit, community advocacy and home-ownership organization whose Achieve the Dream program helps residents take the first step to affordable home ownership with its “Best in America Mortgage,” which includes no down payment, no closing costs or fees, no mortgage insurance, and a below-market fixed rate.

This free, four-hour homebuyer workshop will include two sessions on Stillman’s campus on Feb. 25:

  • 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. (Stinson Auditorium)
  • 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. (Stinson Auditorium)

Registration is now open.

All NACA services are free, including pre-purchase counseling and assistance for homeowners.

According to the NACA, with rents skyrocketing nationwide, purchasing a home with NACA’s Best in America Mortgage will often result in a mortgage payment that is lower than one’s current rent.

Dr. Victoria Boman, vice president for Institutional Effectiveness for Stillman College, said that, among the many benefits of NACA’s services, the re-finance option for current homeowners is a significantly helpful option that allows people to “achieve their dreams.”

Bruce Marks, NACA’s founder and CEO says NACA is “setting the national standard” in providing affordable homeownership.

“We did the impossible for homeowners during the mortgage crisis by modifying over 300,000 mortgages with our massive Save the Dream events,” Marks said in the fall. “Now we are doing the extraordinary for homebuyers with our Achieve the Dream events. Just ask some of the more than 75,000 homeowners with NACA’s incredible terms, with virtually no one losing their home to foreclosure – i.e., foreclosure rate of 0.00012. The ‘drumbeat’ in minority neighborhoods and people’s social networks is that NACA is the place to go for affordable homeownership.”

NACA-Stillman partnership

In addition to Stillman hosting a NACA homebuyer workshop, the college has formed a partnership that will offer mortgage counselor training, internships, and employment at NACA to Stillman students.

NACA has an office located in Birmingham but will soon expand its network throughout the state, which will provide more internship opportunities through NACA.
