Baseball team opens 2010 SIAC Tournament

Game 1
Albany, Ga| The Stillman Tiger baseball team took on Paine College in the opening round of the 2010 SIAC baseball tournament. Stillman came away with a strong 7-0 victory.
Stillman collected 8 hits in the game and committed only one error.
Rey Valdes led the way with two hits in the game.
Mike Jackson drove in two runs.
Starter Nick Bumstead (7-3) pitched a complete game shutout and baffled the Paine College hitters all game long.
Stillman (28-25) will face Benedict College in the second round game. Benedict downed Kentucky State earlier 10-4.
Benedict has won three straight verses the Tigers dating back to last season.
Game 2
Albany, Ga| In the second round of the SIAC tournament, Benedict college stretched its win streak over Stillman to four games, edging the Tigers 9-8.
Benedict would score two runs in the first inning, but Stillman would answer in its half with 3 runs to make the score 3-2. Benedict would answer with one run in the second inning and one in the third inning to make the score 4-3.
In the sixth inning Stillman would come to bat down 4-3 as Patrick Chamberlain reached on a fielders choice and Hampton Gibbs would follow with a walk. With two outs in the inning, Rey Valdes delivered a two out, two RBI double to put Stillman on top 5-4.
In the seventh inning, Benedict would answer the bell again scoring two runs off two hits and would take lead 6-5.
Showing the heart of a 3-time SIAC champion, Stillman would answer in the 8th inning as Jack Hazelrig stepped to plate and lined a two run single into left field to make the score 8-6 Stillman.
The scrappy Tigers of Benedict would not let up in the final inning scoring three runs in the inning and capitalizing on three crucial fielding errors by Stillman. Benedict would finally go ahead for good and defeat Stillman 9-8.
Stillman scored 8 runs off 10 hits and committed 6 errors.
Benedict totaled 9 runs off 13 hits and made 5 errors.
Justin Bryan (0-1) picked up the loss in a relief effort.
Chase Wilson Started the game and went 6.0 solid innings, giving up 8 hits and 5 runs, 3 of which were earned.
Wilson also struck out five.
Stillman will try to battle out of the loser’s bracket again as they did last season to win its third SIAC title.
The Tigers will take on Tuskegee University at 10 a.m Thursday.
