Elementary Education

Have you thought about becoming a highly qualified teacher?  If you have, here is the place to begin.

The Stillman Teacher Education Program (STEP) offers preparation for candidates who wish to become teachers at the elementary, secondary, and other P-12 areas. The unit provides teacher preparation at the initial program level, Class B. Nine teacher education programs are offered, elementary, biology, English, mathematics, history, instrumental and vocal music, physical education, and visual arts.  STEP prepares individuals to become effective professional educators. Entry, retention requirements, courses, and regulations prepare students for state certification and successful careers as teachers.

Each program complies with requirements prescribed by the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) and is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
