Kathryn Brewer-Strayer

A native of Houlton, Maine, Brewer-Strayer received her B.S. in English Education from the University of Maine at Presque Isle, M.A. from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas, and Ph.D. from Northern Illinois University in American Literature and African American Literature. She is married to Mark Strayer and the proud grandmother of Calista Jane.

Dr. Brewer-Strayer has published articles on Gloria Naylor, Cathie Pelletier, and Carolyn Chute. She has also read numerous papers on Toni Morrison, Harriet Jacobs, William Wells Brown, and Ernest Gaines. She currently has a book contract for a book entitled The Language of the Body and the Cult of Domesticity in Three African American Novels.
