Dabney Gray was reared on a cotton farm in Mississippi Delta. He attended Ole Miss and while there was a manager on 1970 Sugar Bowl football team with Archie Manning. Gray readily admits to flunking out of college (twice). He worked for 15 years on cotton plantation in Tunica County, Mississippi. He married the first girl he ever dated—Kristie Griffith (a school teacher who played basketball at Delta State for Margaret Wade) and they have a 29-year-old, Schuyler. Gray returned to college to complete his bachelor's degree and went on the earn both a master's and doctorate. He enjoys jogging and hunting.
