Assistant Professor of Elementary Education

The Division of Professional Education at Stillman College invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Elementary Education.

Minimum Requirements: Doctorate in Elementary Education or Reading. Knowledge of academic area.

Duties: To teach education or reading courses, including the senior thesis and/or others as determined by the needs of the department. Other duties include assisting students in course work, advising and monitoring the academic progress of students, assist with departmental NCATE/CAEP work, and supervise teacher interns.

Chair of Health and Physical Education

Minimum Requirements: Doctorate in Physical Education. Knowledge of academic area.

Duties: To serve as academic leader of the department. To provide leadership and coordination for all activities in the academic department and is accountable for the overall management as well as the quality and integrity of the respective academic programs within the department. To maintain accreditation and teach business courses as determined by the needs of the department. Other duties include planning course schedules, assisting with NCATE/CAEP, advising students, supervising interns, and monitoring the academic progress of students including the senior thesis.

Minimum Requirements: Doctorate in Business Administration. Knowledge of academic areas such as accounting, management, and marketing. Experience with the accreditation process.

Assistant/Associate Professor of Marketing

Minimum requirements:  Ph.D./ABD in Marketing or related qualifications. A record of successful teaching at the collegiate level in Marketing and related business courses. Ability to translate theories in Marketing into the practical world of Marketing commitment to mentoring and preparing there students to participate in local and regional competitions contributing to our curricula evaluation and improvements.

Preference will be given to the applicant with demonstrated experience with integrating technology into classroom instructions.

Assistant Professor of Physical Education

Minimum Requirements: Doctorate preferred in Physical Education or related field, ABD candidates will be considered. Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years of documented physical education teaching experience in grades K-12 or college level.

Duties: To teach physical education courses, including Applied Anatomy, Prevention and Care of Athletic Injuries, Measurement and Evaluation in PE, Senior Thesis and/or others as determined by the needs of the department and the interests of the faculty member. Other duties include assisting students in course work, advising and monitoring the academic progress of students including their senior thesis, assist with departmental NCATE work, supervise teacher interns.

Other Requirements and Responsibilities: Applicants should possess the ability to use technology to enhance classroom teaching and student learning. Grant writing experience desirable.

Assistant or Associate Professor of Journalism

Minimum Requirements: M.A. or Ph.D. (terminal degree) in Journalism or Mass Communication.  Professional and academic experience is highly desirable in desktop publishing, video and audio production, multi-media writing and production, graphic design, photography / photojournalism, web / digital media, social media, and/or online reporting.  Applicants who have background and interest in advertising and/or public relations may apply.

Duties:  Teach lower- and upper-division courses in journalism (focused on but not limited to media writing, photojournalism, public relations, and “new” media production).  Teach with the ability to use technology to enhance classroom teaching and student learning; and advise and mentor undergraduates.

Department Chair/Associate Professor/Professor of Biology

Minimum Requirements: Ph.D. in Biology and prior rank of Associate Professor/Professor. 

Preferred Requirements:  Prior administrative experience.

Position Responsibilities: The ideal candidate would provide leadership as the Chair of Natural Sciences, while also teaching in the areas of Biology and Environmental Sciences.  

Other responsibilities include: Teach freshman to senior level biology courses. Use technology to enhance classroom teaching and student learning. Plan and participate in programs to enhance student advising, success, and retention.  Facilitate an undergraduate research program.

Director of Nursing

Minimum Requirements: Doctorate preferred in Nursing, ABD candidates will be considered. Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years of documented teaching and/or leadership experience.

The successful candidate will have clinical expertise in medical/surgical nursing, a commitment to innovative and active teaching and learning methods in a student-centered environment, interest in developing and implementing the curricula that address multicultural and interdisciplinary topics, and eligibility for or current RN licensure. Interested applicant will contribute to the diversity of our community through their work and service.

Duties:Primary responsibilities will include supervising faculty, classroom and clinical instruction of undergraduate RN-BS nursing students in medical/surgical areas and contribute to general education. Other responsibilities include student advising, participation in program and college governance, participation in professional scholarship, including collaborative research with students, and community engagement activities. Additional duties involve monitoring the academic progress of students including their senior thesis, assist with departmental accreditation work, and supervise nursing interns.

Other Requirements and Responsibilities: Applicants should possess the ability to seek and guide the nursing accreditation process and use technology such as Blackboard in order to enhance classroom teaching and student learning. Grant writing experience is desirable.

The position starting date is by August 2014.
