Peter Edmund Millet Appointed President of Stillman College

TUSCALOOSA, Al (June 26, 2014) - The Stillman College Board of Trustees today announced that Dr. Peter Edmund Millet has been named the sixth President of the College. He will officially take office on July 1, 2014. Dr. Millet's appointment follows the September 2013 resignation of Dr. Ernest McNealy, who served the historic College for 16 years.

Serving as Interim President since September 2013, Millet has been instrumental in organizational restructuring, enhancing Stillman’s community presence and forging local and statewide partnerships.

“We are confident that Dr. Millet’s vision, expertise and dedication will lead Stillman in the right direction to continue producing quality graduates who contribute successfully to society. His academic achievements and public service commitments are representative of the Stillman history and tradition. Our decision will position Stillman to strengthen its academic learning environment to attract the best and brightest students,” said Board of Trustees Chairman Tracy Rosser.

Prior to his appointment, Millet served as Stillman’s Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. He brings to Stillman an accomplished academic track record that includes serving as the Dean of the College of Education at Tennessee State University where he also served as Chairman of the Department of Psychology.

“Dr. Millet’s enthusiasm and leadership coupled with his commitment to higher education and the Stillman community makes him the most qualified person to lead Stillman to greater heights. We appreciate his concern for the students and his willingness to go above beyond to strengthen Stillman,” said Dennis O. Driver, incoming chairman for the Stillman Board of Trustees.

Millet earned his bachelor’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Oakland University. He holds a master’s degree and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from The Ohio State University. As a licensed clinical psychologist, he completed a residency at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta and an internship at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN. He has extensive leadership training from Harvard University, the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (Millennium Leadership Institute), Hampton University (Executive Leadership Summit) and the Council of Independent Colleges (Presidents’ Leadership Institute).

“I am honored to be given the opportunity by the Board of Trustees to serve as the sixth president of Stillman College. I look forward to the future and contributing to Stillman’s great leadership legacy,” said Millet.
